BADM 4001: Community Engaged Scholarship Section

This class has been closed and is no longer open.

From Fall 2021, all GW School of Business students enrolled in the BS programs must complete at least one credit of BADM 4001: Business Leadership Launch. BADM 4001 is an experiential learning course, which GWSB students can repeat to a maximum of 6 total credits.

This is the Community Engaged Scholarship Section of BADM 4001, offered through a partnership with the Honey W. Nashman Center for Civic Engagement and Public Service.  This section provides students with opportunities to work with local nonprofit and public service organizations, leveraging their business skills to contribute to these organizations’ capacity to serve our community and address social change.

We encourage students to embrace this opportunity to make a difference in the community on issues that matter to you. The community partner organizations working with this course have made clear that students’ passion for their organizational mission (creating equity of opportunity, providing youth development opportunities, or serving our city’s vulnerable populations) is as important as their knowledge and skills.

In order to enroll in this course, students must be selected by one of the community partner organizations for an internship role. Click on “internships” above to see the positions currently available and submit your application. New positions will continue to be added from March through July. Student selection will continue on a rolling basis until positions are filled. Students must be selected before August 27, 2021.

The Fall 2021 semester runs from August 30-December 11th, allowing 15 weeks for service toward project goals. Allowing for on-boarding time, students serving five hours per week will meet the 70-hours of service expected for this one-credit course. Orientation, training, and work toward project goals whether completed on or off-site all contribute toward this requirement. Time spent traveling to/from site or completing course reflection assignments does not.
