The Leadership and Community Service-Learning office aims to engage students in a variety of service and leadership centered endeavors. The office is located in the Stamp Student Union and its main goal is to provide students with experiential and community-based opportunities to become socially responsible leaders.
Six different programs are run through the LCSL including Maryland Lead, Terps for Change, America Reads*America Counts*Partners in Print, Alternative Breaks, Voices of Social Change, and Leadership Studies. Each program is impactful in its own way: Alternative Breaks consists of 33 diverse experiences and has committed over 13,000 hours of direct service while ARACPNP has roughly 18 partner schools and 719 mentees they tutor.
The LCSL aims to promote socially responsible leadership, which is a form of leadership that not only advances group goals but also focuses on building up communities and the environment. Students strive to become socially responsible leaders through leadership conferences, a leadership minor, or various service-learning projects. These opportunities allow students to achieve social mindfulness, integrity, and self-awareness.
